How many times have you heard the term “sales event?” Far too many? Yeah me too. When I see the phrase on ads and hear it on commercials, I almost tune it out. Isolating the phrase, it sounds sort of exciting. A sales EVENT. It sounds like a formal, fancy get together with all your favorite cars or household items or clothes. But when you hear it repeatedly it gets really annoying and, at least for me, is easily tuned out. Sometimes advertisers will throw in the name of a holiday to remind us of our procrastination in purchasing gifts. I think that it is sad that the virtue of these holidays is being overridden by sales events. The biggest example of this is Christmas and Black Friday. I think it’s awesome to be able to get such great deals, especially when Christmas can be so pricy. It seems that sometimes people will get so caught up in gift giving that they forget the true nature of the holiday. Some handle it really well and don’t let material things get in the way of spending tome with loved ones. However, with the increase of the ads that tell is to do otherwise, it is harder and harder to remember the true nature of the holiday, and easier and easier to become materialistic. Although the repitition of the statement of “sales event” is easy to ignore, it has really found a place in our society.
I am a constant user of Spotify, but my cheap self does not have Spotify Premium. The defaults of not having Spotify Premium are not being able to pick the song you listen to, not having your music downloaded, and of course, advertisements. Most of these ads are for Spotify Premium, and these ads are so annoying. Sometimes, I have to leave the room when these ads come on. At first, I just thought that Spotify was just bad at advertising, and that the ads were really annoying. Then my music would turn back on, and I wouldn’t think much else of it. After we began analyzing ads, I realized the genius of these insanely annoying ads. People are so much more likely to pay to get rid of ads when the ads are so bad that can’t even be listened to. These ads are bad on purpose so that people will pay for Spotify Premium, and get rid of them. When people hear “no ad interruptions” at the end of a painful ad, it doesn’t even matter what else was said about Spotif...

I have noticed this issue an and think that it is ruining the nature of holidays by replacing the idea of "gift-giving" with the true reason to show you love someone, to an extremely materialstic event that you will be proiud of becasue you got a "steal", instead of just giving something that you think will make the other happy that will express your love for them.
